Using AI without losing your voice
Customers buy from people they trust. How to use AI for speed while keeping your work recognizably yours.
AI can draft in seconds what used to take an afternoon. It can also make everything sound the same. The goal is to get the speed without handing over the part people are actually paying for: your judgment and your voice.
Give it your examples first
Before asking for a draft, share two or three things you've written that you're proud of. Ask the assistant to describe your tone back to you. Then ask it to draft in that tone.
Use it for structure, not opinions
AI is good at outlines, first drafts, summaries and reformatting. Your opinions, your stories and your recommendations should come from you. Those are what make a client choose you over a template.
Always edit before you send
Read every output out loud. Cut anything you wouldn't say. Check any fact, number or claim you plan to share with a customer, because AI can state wrong things confidently.
Be open about how you work
Many clients are comfortable with AI-assisted work as long as a person is responsible for the result. A simple line such as “I use AI tools for drafting and research; every deliverable is reviewed and finished by me” builds trust.
